Topic :
Virtual Reality, Simulation and Facility Planning
Abstract
In this presentation, the use of VR for training aircraft manufacturers will be first detailed.  The use of VR in the design of the aircraft facility and assembly stations will also be addressed.  However, VR is emulation and not simulation.  The extension of the concepts used in VR in the simulation of facility planning research will be detailed next.  Although, Dr. Krishnan has used simulation for several applications in facilities planning, in this presentation he will focus on the use of simulation to prove the ineffectiveness of distributed layout. He will conclude the presentation with his current work on live simulation models for the aircraft industries.  Live simulation models are a great tool for control and production planning decision-making.  The last question in this session that will be addressed is “Can facilities planning be done without simulation?”
