About Calicut

Calicut (presently known as Kozhikode) is a major centre of higher education, learning and research in Kerala. It is the home town of institutions of national importance including NITC, IIMK, IISR, DOEACC, CWRDM, etc. Calicut is connected by direct road and rails to most of the major cities in India. There is an International Airport at Calicut.

About the Institute

National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) is one of the premier technical institutions in India. NITC is an institute fully funded by the Government of India. NITC is situated in a beautiful campus on the Calicut-Mukkam road, about 22 km from Calicut. NITC has thirteen academic departments and offers ten undergraduate, twenty four postgraduate programmes and Ph.D. in various areas of engineering, science and technology. The institute has good infrastructure in computing, information technology, laboratories and library including digital library. Internet access is available for all staff and students. The institute is a participant of the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) of Government of India.

About the Department

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, the largest department in the Institute, offers B. Tech. (Mechanical Engineering), B. Tech. (Production Engineering) programmes, M. Tech. programmes in Industrial Engineering and Management, Manufacturing Technology, Thermal Sciences, Energy Management, and Materials Science & Technology, and Doctoral Degree programmes. Besides teaching, the members of the faculty are involved in consultancy and sponsored research work.
